You don’t need formal qualifications or prior experience, just a willingness to care, learn and create a stable, nurturing environment. Start by making an enquiry. You can contact Mosaic via phone or email (as shown on the website “Contact Us” page) to speak with a fostering adviser. Then you’ll go through Mosaic’s application process with preparatory training (“Skills to Foster”), assessment and approval process. Once approved, there is post approval induction and ongoing training available.  

Support is a core part of Mosaic’s approach right from day one. Every foster parent is supported by an in-house therapy team. You’ll have access to a dedicated therapist to help you understand and respond to children’s behaviours, build secure relationships, and get real‑world strategies that work. Mosaic offers ongoing professional support, supervision, reflective practice and therapeutic input when challenges arise. This ensures carers are not left alone when things get difficult. Furthermore, children in placement receive an allocated support worker, regular therapy, social and peer‑group opportunities (e.g. clubs) and structured safeguarding reviews.

Mosaic operates across multiple counties and regions in England, including Essex, Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, North Kent, Worcestershire and the Midlands.

Before a child is placed, prospective carers complete the “Skills to Foster” training course – three sessions covering essential topics such as child development, trauma, safer caring, attachment and therapeutic parenting. Training is delivered by Mosaic’s in-house professionals (social workers and therapists) and experienced foster parents – giving practical, real-world insight rather than just theory. After approval, carers have access to ongoing development, workshops, reflective supervision and therapeutic input tailored to their foster child’s changing needs.

Mosaic Foster Care provides a minimum weekly payment of £600 for foster carers. After completing their initial training (Training Support and Development Standards workbook), this typically increases to £700+ per week. Mosaic Foster Care follows a “matching with care, not speed” philosophy – meaning they focus on ensuring children are placed in homes that truly meet their therapeutic, emotional and developmental needs, rather than rushing for quick placement. Before placement, a needs‑led assessment is conducted. Once a match is agreed, carers and children are supported throughout the transition with therapeutic and social‑worker oversight. Every child placed with Mosaic Foster Care receives a therapy assessment at the start, which informs their treatment plan that aims to help them process trauma, build resilience, and work toward healing. They are also allocated a support worker to help build life skills, confidence, social skills, and self-esteem. Peer‑group and club activities are offered to help with social integration and a sense of belonging. Additionally, Mosaic ensures regular safeguarding case reviews (at least every three months) to continually assess strengths, vulnerabilities and risk – ensuring the child’s safety and wellbeing remain at the heart of care, as well as the safety of those caring for them.

A therapeutic foster home under Mosaic aims to be stable, nurturing, safe, and predictable – offering children structure, routine, emotional support and opportunities to build trust and relationships. Because carers are trained in trauma-informed care and supported by therapists, the environment emphasises healing, growth, and wellbeing. Foster parents are supported to respond to behavioural or emotional challenges with understanding, empathy and therapeutic insight – rather than reactive discipline – helping children build resilience, attachment and a sense of belonging.

Mosaic Foster Care works with children and young people (typically aged between 5 and 17) who may have experienced significant trauma, neglect, repeated placements or emotional and behavioural difficulties stemming from early life experiences. These children often need more than a safe home – they need therapeutic support, stability and a nurturing environment to heal, develop and build trust.  

Mosaic Foster Care’s “SMILE” therapeutic framework underpins everything: foster carers receive training, children get therapy and youth support workers, and the whole family receives ongoing professional support co-ordinated by their supervising social worker. Through consistent therapy, stable placement, peer and social opportunities, life skills work and structured safeguarding reviews, children have the chance not just to recover but to grow emotionally, socially, and academically.  

Mosaic Foster Care recognises fostering affects the entire household. We actively address how fostering might impact birth children or preexisting family members and provide support to ensure positive and healthy family dynamics. Support includes counselling or therapeutic support (under the same therapeutic framework), regular open communication with their supervising social worker, help maintaining routines and stability and ensuring birth children feel heard, safe and valued. Mosaic Foster Care also offers supportive foster care (planned weekends or short breaks with designated respite carers) to help families recharge while ensuring children are in safe care.  

Mosaic Foster Care’s focus is on long-term placements rather than short-term or emergency fostering. Many children stay until adulthood and where appropriate, transition into “Staying Put” or “Staying Close” arrangements. Their approach emphasises stability, placing children in homes where they can remain for many years, giving them the safety, consistency and support needed to heal and grow.  

From day one of placement, your foster family will have access to Mosaic Foster Care’s in-house therapy team, supervising social workers, support workers and a therapeutic lead. So if difficulties or crises emerge, support isn’t delayed. Mosaic’s SMILE model emphasises “doing things early and together” rather than waiting so you’re supported proactively, not reactively.  

Training doesn’t end after the initial “Skills to Foster” course – Mosaic Foster Care provides ongoing workshops, resources, reflective supervision and therapeutic guidance as needs evolve. Whether you face new behavioural challenges, developmental issues or just need support with parenting strategies, the agency’s professional team remains available to help you grow and adapt.  

Mosaic Foster Care offers 3 weeks supportive foster care (respite) per year – allowing families planned breaks while ensuring the foster child is cared for by known and trusted alternate carers.
