About the Role 

Being a foster parent with Mosaic Foster Care is a professional, full-time commitment. You’ll be offering a nurturing, long-term stable home to a child who may have experienced significant trauma. It’s a vocation that demands resilience, compassion, emotional insight and a growth mindset. But you won’t do it alone. 

Mosaic specialises in long-term, therapeutic fostering. That means we match foster families and foster children carefully. We train you thoroughly and we are by your side, able to act fast when support is needed. With 24/7 access to our in-house therapeutic team, paid breaks, a generous weekly allowance and full funding for training, you’ll be supported at every turn – emotionally, practically and financially. 

Key Responsibilities 

Care and Nurturing 

• Provide safe, stable, day-to-day care in your home for a child or young person, meeting their physical, emotional and educational needs. 

• Establish healthy routines, promote positive attachments and offer consistent, intentional parenting. 

• Support the child’s development through clear boundaries, nurturing communication and trauma-aware responses. 

Therapeutic Parenting 

• Engage with Mosaic’s SMILE therapeutic framework, including regular training, reflective groups and professional supervisions. 

• Respond calmly and compassionately to behaviour challenges, with therapeutic support available when needed. 

Advocacy and Teamwork 

• Work collaboratively with social workers, health professionals, education staff and the child’s birth family (where appropriate). 

• Act as a strong advocate for the child, ensuring their views and rights are represented. 

• Keep accurate written records and contribute to professional meetings and planning sessions. 

Ongoing Learning and Development 

• Complete all core and specialist training, including the Training Support and Development Standards (TSD) workbook. 

• Participate in supervision, development reviews and ongoing reflective practice. 

• Embrace feedback and continually build your skills as a professional foster parent. 

Support and Benefits 

• Weekly payments of £600–£700+, with full payment for additional children (where appropriate). 

• Three weeks of supportive care (respite) annually - with up to 7 days’ pay available if unused. 

• £250 weekly retainer for up to 4 weeks if a long-term child’s placement ends unexpectedly. 

• 24/7 access to support, including Mosaic’s in-house therapists and youth workers. 

• Fully funded training and therapeutic services – no costs are deducted from your fee. 

• Dedicated supervising social worker and youth worker support where needed. 

• Peer support and regular community events throughout the year. 

Tax-free income and salary equivalence:
Thanks to a special UK tax scheme called Qualifying Care Relief, foster parents typically pay no tax on their earnings. A Mosaic foster parent receiving £700 per week (or £36,400 per year) would not be taxed under current allowances – meaning this income is broadly equivalent to a gross salary of around £47,647 in a traditional job. That’s what makes fostering with Mosaic not just emotionally rewarding, but financially sustainable too. 

Who We’re Looking For 

You’ll need to have: 

• A spare bedroom available for fostering use 

• The time and availability to provide full-time care and attend regular meetings, training and support sessions 

• A full driving licence and access to a vehicle (preferable but not essential) 

You’ll be someone who: 

• Has a calm, patient and emotionally intelligent approach to parenting/caring for a child 

• Communicates clearly and has the ability to keep records at a professional standard 

• Can work as part of a professional team, take guidance and reflect openly 

• Is willing to engage in ongoing training and therapeutic support 

• Genuinely wants to commit to long-term fostering and see a child through to adulthood 

It’s a bonus if you also have: 

• Personal or professional experience of supporting children or young people 

• An understanding of attachment, trauma or therapeutic parenting
