Children supported as individuals, not cases
Alongside support from our supervising social workers, children benefit from their own dedicated Youth Support Worker when needed – someone who listens, laughs and shows up just for them. The Two Types Of Social Workers Foster Parents Will Work With
All foster families receive support from two types of social workers: a supervising social worker and the child’s social worker. Here we explain more:
Supervising Social Worker
- Employed by Mosaic Foster Care.
- They offer practical and emotional support to foster parents, helping them navigate the challenges of fostering.
- They identify training needs and organise opportunities for foster parents to enhance their skills.
- They act as a link between the fostering agency and the foster family, ensuring smooth communication.
- They regularly assess the foster home environment and the child's progress, ensuring it meets the required standards.
- They help foster parents build positive relationships with the child, their birth family, and other professionals involved in the child's care.
- They can help mediate between the foster family and the child's birth family, especially regarding contact arrangements.
Child’s Social
Worker
- Employed by the local authority.
- They assess the child’s individual needs and develop a care plan to address those needs.
- They work with the foster family and the supervising social worker to ensure the placement meets the child’s needs and preferences.
- They maintain contact with the child's birth family, working toward reunification where appropriate.(Note: Mosaic is focused on long term fostering where a permanence order is likely already in place and the child is unlikely to return to the family home.)
- They visit the child in the foster home regularly to monitor their well-being and assess the placement.
- They advocate for the child’s best interests and ensure their voice is heard.
This Is What Makes Mosaic Foster Care Different – A Voice For The Child
Children need their own dedicated support too. That’s why we created a Youth Support Worker role to provide another safe, consistent adult for children to talk to.
Our Youth Support Workers make a massive difference in the lives of Mosaic children. This role is child-led, offering 1:1 time away from the pressures of family life and school. It might be a walk in the park, a chat over a milkshake, or some time doing something fun together. The point is: it’s their time. This relationship gives children a chance to speak freely, build confidence, and know they’re truly seen and valued.

Both social workers and the youth worker collaborate to ensure the child's welfare and well-being within the foster family. This blanket of support for child and foster parents gives families the best possible chance of long-term success. We’re there when things go well. And we’re there when things wobble.

Mosaic Subscribes To The
Secure Base Model
The Secure Base model is a set of five behaviours for foster parents to follow designed to promote a secure and healthy attachment style in children. By following the framework, foster parents provide a positive and healthy experience of family life which in turn helps the children in their care feel safe and supported. The five dimensions are:
Availability – helping the child to trust.
Sensitivity – helping the child to manage feelings.
Acceptance – building the child’s self-esteem.
Co-operation – helping the child to feel effective.
Family membership – helping the child to belong.
The Secure Base Model is drawn from attachment theory, and adapted to include an additional element, that of family membership, for children who are separated from their birth families.
